Passing Sidings and Moving Scenes

A recent vacation took us from Chicago to Salt Lake City on the California Zephyr, and from East Glacier Montana back to Chicago on the Empire Builder.  Activities on the train are limited, but if you are a railfan, you can always try to capture a few usable images of railroad structures and equipment as you pass through the countryside.  The challenges are many.   Telephone poles and trees come up out of nowhere, right as the shutter releases, and  dirty train windows and the movement and forward speed of the train don’t do anything to help improve sharpness and composition.   With that disclaimer in mind, please view the images in this gallery for what they are – many of them were taken from inside our roomette on a moving train.  Slide show should start automatically.  Sit back and enjoy the show!
