“Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”
― George Bernard Shaw
There’s been a change of scenery on the Eagle River Division, thanks to both my ability to change my mind (a talent most likely learned from my mother?), and the portability of HO-scale structures prior to affixing them permanently to the layout.
What exactly resulted from all this mind-changing?
Cargill Elevator was relocated from Oak Hill to Westburg. Oak Hill Feed came along with it. At Westburg, the interchange track and junction with the Rock Island was removed. (For sale: 1 cheap Athearn R.I. caboose.)
Moving Cargill gave me room to expand the Purina Mills operation at Oak Hill. A second loading spur (for boxcars) was added next to the bulk-loading track, and 4 additional unloading tracks were added on the “back” side of the elevators and buildings.
Relocating Oak Hill Feed (which has been renamed something else..) allowed room for Picadilly Wholesale to expand by adding a new corrugated metal structure, and Coop Fertilizer moved in next door to the MFA elevator.
Track feeders and tortoise switch machines have been installed but the tortoise machines still need to be connected to power and toggle switches. The new arrangements have not been tested with an operating session yet, but I am confident they provide additional variety to the jobs at Westburg and at Oak Hill.
